Welcome to the Alamance Rams Lacrosse Program.
We are committed to providing the local community with a high-quality lacrosse program that will feed our local Alamance County high schools with talented lacrosse players. While our local high school’s field competitive lacrosse teams, they are hampered by not having middle schools to feed the high schools. Lacrosse programs in Orange County, Durham County, and Wake County have benefited from middle school lacrosse teams serving as feeder programs. We are committed to offering an affordable way to learn the game with experienced coaches who have a passion for teaching the game. With the support of local high school coaches, several recreational programs, and satisfied parents, we are excited to begin our training in mid-February.
We will practice two nights per week with the goal of playing several games against local middle schools in late April and early May. Our goal is to teach the game through innovative practices from experienced lacrosse coaches. We realize there will be a wide array of experience and we welcome working with players at all levels of lacrosse knowledge and skills.
Who we are:
Meet Paul Galovich, a former collegiate football coach and current youth lacrosse coach. Paul is a veteran of the Alamance lacrosse scene, having coached recreational lacrosse and as a lacrosse dad. Paul’s son Tristan is playing collegiately at St. Andrews University, after a highly successful career at Burlington Williams. Paul’s experience as a lacrosse coach has rapidly increased as he served as a youth coach with the Carolina Hilltoppers Select Travel Lacrosse Program, the oldest and most established program in the area. Paul has seen firsthand the need for a more organized local program that provides consistent instruction, offers more opportunities to learn, and is committed to the future of our high school programs. Paul will be assisted by local Alamance coaches as well as members of the Hilltopper’s staff as needed, including a current collegiate coach.
Paul reached out to Hilltopper’s founder and Co-Director, Franklin Zirkle who has over 30 years of lacrosse experience. He served as a collegiate and high school official for a decade before returning to the field as a head coach at East Chapel Hill High School from 2005-2011. Coach Z has the distinction of appearing in five consecutive NCHSAA State Championship Games, three as a referee, and then two as a head coach, as his 2006 team won the State Title. He took another team back to the State title in 2011 with both of his sons on the team. He started his career at Division III Guilford College as a Head Coach and Assistant Coach for both programs. Coach Z started the travel program in 2011 citing the need for a new local travel team, one that is still going strong after fourteen years. While Paul will run the program and has spearheaded the effort to create a new opportunity for fellow Alamance parents, he now has the resources to ensure success on the field and realizing a goal for many Alamance County parents and coaches.
We are offering an affordable option to play lacrosse during our inaugural year. We hope to create a love for the game where young athletes will want to play lacrosse well into high school and beyond. We welcome multi-sport athletes at this age, lacrosse is a game that replicates skills from basketball, football, soccer and hockey. Lacrosse is also a game that utilizes many players in games due to the fast-paced nature of the sport. Lacrosse is growing, not only in North Carolina but Nationally. Lacrosse is now an Olympic Sport, and we have just secured a Professional team in Charlotte.
We have chosen to affiliate with the Hilltoppers, as their coaching staff has vast experience in local lacrosse. They are a family run business with a commitment to “grow the game”, which can be seen through the Bull City All Star Lacrosse Game that has raised over $50,000.00 for lacrosse scholarships, the Duke Cancer Institute, and middle school lacrosse in the Triangle area. We have the experience needed to be successful in creating middle school aged teams that will feed our high school programs. We want to see all our high school’s thrive in the sport of Lacrosse.
Q@A
Where will you practice?
We will practice in both Graham and Mebane, making it easier for families to attend practices. Will I need equipment? We recommend that you purchase gently used gear from Play it Again Sports or a local vendor. While we will offer some gear, it’s a good idea to have your own helmet, gloves, and pads (and don’t forget a mouthpiece). You don’t need top of the line gear!
How can I sign up to become an Alamance Ram?
Please click on the link below where you will provide the necessary information, we need to start our initial phase of player/family identification. In two weeks we will provide a more detailed full registration link with more pertinent information. You do not need to pay until fully registered and waivers completed.
What if I have never played the game before?
Not a problem, we expect to see young players of all abilities and will work to create a competitive team. Like any sport, if you put in the time away from practices working on stick skills, you will greatly benefit as a player.
Will I have other opportunities to play?
We will continue to build the program and offer other opportunities to improve your skills beyond the Spring season.
Can I speak with someone to get more information?
Yes, you can reach Paul at CoachP@alamanceramslax.com.
